Ahipara School is one of many schools in the Far North that is part of a programme called Health Promoting Schools (HPS). In this programme we take a wider view of health than just care of the body. We try to consider all aspects that influence our children and to create an environment that promotes the health and well being of all students as well as all those within the school.
Ahipara School receives ‘Fruit in Schools’ which is a free donation of fruit twice a week, ‘Milk in Schools’ that is a supply of milk each day, plus a donation of food from KidsCan for Breakfast Club such as weetbix, milk and toast , served every morning from 8.00am to 8.35am.
We encourage our students to bring a healthy selection of food to feed their bodies and minds. Fizzy drinks, lollies, chocolate and other confectionery are not considered as lunch food and should be kept at home. On the occasion where your child may have forgotten their lunch, some food (fruit, sandwich etc.) can be provided for them so they don’t go hungry.
The school canteen is operated by an outside provider – North Drift Cafe. Students can order either for their lunch on Thursday and Friday. Orders are taken in the classroom at the beginning of school to avoid students handling or losing money throughout the day.
Another option for school lunches is ordering from Subway on Tuesdays. Your child can collect an order envelope from their classroom teacher or the school Office. Orders are collected in class on Tuesday morning and returned to the Office for processing. Orders will be delivered to the classes.
