Our library is full of fun, learning and of course books! Every week each class visits the school library at least oncen and it is sometimes open at lunchtimes too.
We are eagerly awaiting on the build of our BRAND NEW library space and can't wait to bring a viabrant flare that is missing from current space.
Student Library Service team
Our student librarians play an important role in helping to keep the library organized, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. Working together to provide an inviting space where all our students are able to come and read the many pukapuka available to themselves, or one another.
📚 Roles and Responsibilities of Our Ahipara School Student Librarians
Sort and return books to the correct shelves.
Keep books neat and tidy on the shelves.
Arrange reading areas and ensure they are clean and cozy.
Help classmates find books they want to read.
Explain basic library rules (e.g., handling books carefully, quiet voices).
Support younger students in choosing books.
Read books to our younger students.
Check for damaged books and report them to the librarian.
Remind students to treat books gently.
Help with simple book repairs (like taping torn pages).
Providing Board games, colouring in activities, LEGO challenges, arts and crafts related to termly events happening within the school
Help prepare for book fairs, reading challenges, or storytelling sessions.
Suggest new books or topics that class and schoolmates might enjoy.
Create and display posters to encourage reading.
Assist in checking books in and out (with supervision).
Keep track of books that need to be returned.
Responsible – Takes care of duties without reminders.
Friendly and Helpful – Enjoys supporting others.
Organized – Keeps things neat and tidy.
Enthusiastic – Loves books and encourages others to read.
