Projects Ahipara School
Enviroschools:
“Throughout the nationwide Enviroschools network we are seeing thousands of innovative and inspiring ways to care for our planet, learn creatively and live healthy, sustainable lives. One tool in Enviroschools is the puna mātauranga/ pool of knowledge – a visual representation of collective learning. Welcome to this, our online puna mātauranga, where we can pool our learning and actions to help spread ripples of hope, kaitiakitanga and connection as widely as possible.” - Enviroschools.
This year we are reconnecting with what it looks like to be an Enviro School at Ahipara School.
We are moving forward into creating a whole school mentality and approach to taking care of our environment. We want to become a more sustainable school that produces less waste. We want well informed and purposeful kaitiakitanga students.
In term 2 we have begun our Enviro Monitors leadership roles. Students from Year 6, 7 and 8 are volunteering their time to monitor classrooms and shared environments, cleaning up rubbish and identifying which classrooms are actively taking care of their environment. Each week, a class will be nominated as the Enviro Classroom of the Week by our Enviro Monitors and awarded at Friday assemblies.
EnviroProjects, Science Fair and more info to come soon.

We have a team of enthusiastic students who are driving the revitalisation of our Nature Walk.
This involves assessing the current environment, consulting with experts, gathering information, interviewing stakeholders, researching designs and creating a plan we can see through to fruition.
The Nature Walk is a special part of our school that has been out of use for several years, and we are excited about the possibility of being able to use and enjoy it again.
